Understanding and working with male survivors of sexual abuse. A moMENtum training day at Dartington Hall, led by Mike Lew, on Monday 7th July 2025

The training day will be led by Mike Lew psychotherapist and group therapy leader. This will be a collaborative event with Thom Harrigan, clinical social worker and educator, along with moMENtum and an expert international panel of male survivors. Mike and Thom’s expertise coupled with the knowledge of the other experts will focus on male survivors of childhood sexual abuse.

Mike Lew has worked with thousands of men and women in their healing from the effects of childhood sexual abuse, rape, physical violence, emotional abuse and neglect. He conducts public lectures, workshops for survivors, and training and consultations for mental health, medical, clergy, law enforcement and other professionals throughout the United States, in Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Africa and Asia. Mike has taught at The City College of New York, Quinnipiac College, The College of New Rochelle and the University of California, Santa Cruz. Mike is the author of Victims No Longer: The Classic Guide for Men Recovering from Sexual Child Abuse.

Understanding trauma

It is now widely acknowledged that what was thought to be a rare occurrence, in fact affects 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys. On average it takes boys 23 years to disclose childhood sexual abuse and most never do. You are likely to meet many such clients in the various services you work within, maybe without being aware of what might lie behind the presentations and issues that you see. We are not all going to be experts on these issues, but we can help those who are affected by these experiences of trauma by meeting them well and collaboratively. Our training offers you an opportunity to understand something of the experience of male survivors. Understanding trauma can help us make sense out of what may seem nonsensical for both staff and clients

Cost of Training

The training day will be held on Monday 7th July 2025 from 9.30 - 4 p.m. at Dartington Hall, Dartington, Devon TQ6 9ELT. The fee is £130 per person, with an early bird promotion of 20 places, at the discounted rate of £99, available until May 31st.
